On the 24th Day of Christmas...

My mum just told me that my aunts and uncles are coming this morning and then this afternoon my cousins will be as well and I'll need to share my room with them.

SobSob

It's bad enough they are coming, but actually coming in to my personal space, until boxing day... OMG... It's always nice to see them all, don't get me wrong but we had this a few years ago and it was utter and complete chaos! My youngest cousins are Chester and Florence and they're twins and they are nuts lol literally tiny crazy kids. They laugh and scream continuously and last time ran riot in my room.

Actually, looking back, it's no surprise I had a mental breakdown  4 months later lol.

I really cannot wait for this to be over. It will be nice seeing everyone again, it always is, but it quickly becomes exhausting and very, very, overwhelming. Frowning2️

  • That's not good. I'm sure space is limited but your family should appreciate that being autistic you need your own space to retreat to if things get overwhelming. I do hope you are able to find somewhere you can go if it all gets too much.

Have you tried discussing your concerns with your mum and explaining the effect it had on you last time? It might not be too late to find an alternative plan. This have really sprung this on you at short notice and I would be upset too if that happened.

You might find some useful tips in the surviving the silly season video I posted on here recently:

Good luck. I hope it turns out better than you expect.

  • It went a lot better than I thought it would. It was still mad, loud and my great aunt June kept hugging me - I really dislike being touched. But overall it wasn't such a bad day, Chester and Florence were just bearable but by lunch they tired themselves and went to sleep. Then after lunch I decided to go for a walk and managed to walk over 5 miles, was nice to be out in the fresh air, and I walked lunch off too...

My mum came in to my room last night and sat on my bed - she very rarely does this, and she asked if I was ok... Because she knows how much I struggle with parties and family get togethers. She said she's very proud of me. We ended up falling asleep together on my bed but when I woke up she had already left, don't know what time, I slept like a log.
