Yesterday morning, my son and I decided the time had come to stock up on Christmas groceries. Although we hadn't gone mad in terms of what was purchased, it certainly felt like we had considering we ended up with three rather bulky and heavy bags of groceries.
We started with Tesco, as I needed to return a pair of slipper boots I had treated myself to some weeks ago. Although the correct size, they had felt uncomfortably snug (no wiggle room for my toes). Anyway, whilst searching to see if I could find a nutcracker (as in kitchen implement), I happened to spot a gravy boat featuring a robin design. Having spent almost the past three decades making do with serving gravy in plastic measuring jugs, I decided it was a must-have purchase. Regrettably, I was unsuccessful in purchasing a nutcracker, but not the end of the world as I was unsuccessful in purchasing the bag of nuts (in shells), which had been on my shopping list.
After Tesco, we ended up at Aldi, which proved to be something of a nightmare. In addition to trying to dodge staff who were busy restocking shelves, it was a matter of trying to navigate a route around the store that avoided ramming annoying customers with my shopping trolley. When I say, "annoying customers", I'm referring to the kind of shoppers who are deep in conversation with other customers, and oblivious to everything else that is going on around them as they stand there blocking the aisles, making it difficult for people to get past. "Excuse me! Excuse me, can I just get past, please? Okay, well don't blame me if you end up missing a couple of limbs!"
Upon arriving home, I was relieved to discover that a Moonpig Christmas card I had ordered for my son had been delivered. Now, when I had ordered the card and personalised it, I felt the default font size was too large, so had reduced it. When my son opened the card, the text was so tiny that it looked like it had been written by 'The Borrowers'. Fortunately, he found it rather amusing.
Whilst my son and I had been out shopping, the postman had also delivered a pair of waterproof snow shoes/boots I had ordered for myself. I'm starting to think I must be fated where footwear is concerned. I'm a UK size 6 and had ordered a UK size 6.5. Guess what? I will need to return them. Width-wise they are fine, but like the slipper boots I previously purchased, there isn't enough wiggle room for my toes.
After yesterday, I intend to take it easy today and try to recharge my batteries.
