One of my odd “meta” special interests is keeping data about everything. A daily journal of my life, exercise stats, an IMDB rating of almost everything I watch, finances, even my food. When I get interested in something, or am even just researching a purchase, I start generating spreadsheets and notes like nobody’s business.
I don’t know if this is an autistic thing or if I’m just weird!
I love the pacing too. Television makers trusted people’s attention spans then. Building atmosphere slowly, having characters take time to explore a situation in real time… I miss it.
Incredible writing and inventiveness on that show. And McCallum and Lumley were such a team! That ambiguous chemistry…
I loved Sapphire and Steel when I was a kid. Some of the stories were incredibly creepy!
46 in my case. So a lot of it is time travel back to an era I’m so glad was foundational to the feel of my childhood, but exploring its complexities with adult eyes as well as sometimes ‘just’ indulging my persistent inner six year old
Heady days. Politically pretty rough going, culturally… sublime.
Doctor Who, Doctor Who, and Doctor Who.
Other cult tv stuff too. Blake’s 7, Star Cops, Sapphire and Steel… I love late 70s to early eighties archive stuff especially. music, telly, soundtracks. Very nostalgic for the feel of those times, and how writing and acting for television was a theatre-influenced art that crafted inventive and innovative stuff straddling the old world and the then-new. Slick modern telly has its pluses too, but my soul is forever 80s.
