Breakup advice

Hey guys, I just broke up with my boyfriend of three years yesterday. Although it was me the one who called it quits (he was lovely he didn’t understand my autism and adhd, leaving me feeling the need to mask till i burntout often, and no matter how i tried to explain he couldn’t understand my neurodiverse brain)

Has anyone else gone through anything similar? My biggest challenge at the moment is the change. I’m struggling with the change a lot. Anyone got any suggestions to ease the pain?

  • I don't really have any advice as such, but I've experienced relationship breakups in the past (before I knew I was autistic). I found that even when I was the one who had called time on the relationship, it could sometimes take time for me to adjust to that person no longer being in my life.

When I found myself in the situation you now find yourself in, I allowed myself time to heal and work through my emotions at my own pace, whilst also trying to channel my energies into things that made me happy. In time, the pain does ease, or at least that's usually been my experience.
