looking for friends...

hi im david i have aspergers syndrome, i find it hard to socialise and find myself alienated and alone...

i was first diagnosed at 13 and am now 38... i still find it hard to communicate even after living with aspergers for all this time... i stammer when i talk and very rarely give eye contact which often makes people believe im not listening or interested in what there saying...

anyone else out there having the same issues or is it just me.... :(

  • Hi Mark, I went to my G.P. last year to ask to be referred for a proper Autism test, my doctor was totally dismissive of my request, another doctor had much the same attitude. My doctor insists that I have social anxiety disorder but I don't feel that explains the extreme difficulties I have interacting with people, how I find eye contact extremely difficult, I have obsessional hobbies which are all-consuming, there are other Autistic traits that I have. I've done an online test with the Aspergers test site and that suggests that I do indeed have mild Autism. Getting my doctor to refer me for a test is going to be a challenge. It's good that you got your diagnosis, I really need this too, it would explain why I'm the way I am, have always felt different to most other people, good to hear from you.
