looking for friends...

hi im david i have aspergers syndrome, i find it hard to socialise and find myself alienated and alone...

i was first diagnosed at 13 and am now 38... i still find it hard to communicate even after living with aspergers for all this time... i stammer when i talk and very rarely give eye contact which often makes people believe im not listening or interested in what there saying...

anyone else out there having the same issues or is it just me.... :(

  • Hi David,

Do you like gardening at all, being outdoors.  I have Asperger's, am the same age as you, 38.  My eye contact varies with the person, im not good with strangers and avoid eye contact with people in the work place where I am a constant bag of nerves being around people.  I am not working just now, on ESA and PIP.  What I do is I am part of a gardening group for people with autism and asperger's.  I never had any gardening experience before.  Our group has allotments in Glasgow where I live and we grow and look after our own fruit, herbs and vegetables.  It is great.  Our group is small and there is no pressure or judgement or anything like that.  Check our group out online if you wish at http://www.auticulture.net . If you are interested in that sort of thing, check and see if there are any such groups in your local area.

    All the best
