Hibernating / Semi-Hibernating

Honest question - I am really curious about seeing a number of members' profile names with "(hibernating)" or "(semi-hibernating)" appended to the end.

I'm not sure what this means, especially as some of those members appear to still be very much active on the forum.
It seems rather illogical to me, does it serve any purpose?

Please could someone explain this.

  • There are some members here who are regulars and tend to visit the site daily. If they suddenly become less active on the forums, it can sometimes cause other members to panic. The inclusion of "hibernating" or "semi-hibernating" at the end of a member's profile name is a way of letting it be known to other members that they are simply taking a break from the forums.

In my case, I can go through phases when I'm active on the forums, followed by days or weeks when I'm not. The "semi-hibernating" at the end of my username is my way of letting my NAS friends know that even though I may be less active on the forums, I will endeavour to respond to any private messages they may send.

I hope I've answered your query in a way that makes sense.

  • Thank you for your explanation, it sort of makes sense.
