Bumping into a former Teacher

This morning, when waiting for the Bus to Belfast, my old IT Teacher brought her son to get a bus to Derry. Also, her Husband taught at the School my brother attended, and was my brother's Form Teacher.

The Hubby drove a White Tesla. I felt like what is happening to my country. While, at the same time, I wondered what I did with my life. I basically sponged off my family's success.

Anyone else bump into a former Teacher of yours?

  • Hmm...

Yep, I bump into my English teacher now and again, I liked her, when I was at school. She was smart and fair.

My music teacher, also choir master and form teacher, took early retirement, he was nice too. I assume he's still around, but I haven't seen him since I've been back here. My personal geography is very small, apart from necessary or occasional trips, I don't often go far.

  • I bumped into a former university lecturer at an ice hockey match.

  • i dont think id recognise most of them.

i didnt have good experience in school so i dunno whether id respect them or not anyway. i suppose theyd be more interested in me and where i am if they remembered me i guess so they may be more friendly and approachable which may soften my previous hate of the entire place and everyone involved.

  • For a good many years, I found myself frequently bumping into my former Business Studies teacher. The first time it happened was when I was about 18, and it felt surreal. It was the early hours of the morning and I was on my way to a 24-hour petrol station to buy a packet of cigarettes, which involved walking through part of an industrial estate.

I was aware there was someone walking ahead of me, and being a female out at that time, I felt it wise to maintain a safe distance. However, I had walked on some loose gravel, and the sound caused the person to stop and look around. Fortunately, I immediately realised the person was my harmless former teacher, and he instantly recognised me.

The last time we spoke was when I was back at school. It felt strange (in a nice way) that my former teacher was conversing with me as an equal. He too was on his way to the petrol station to buy some cigarettes, having apparently had a row with his wife. We were comparing notes as I'd just had a bust-up with my boyfriend. The most surreal thing wasn't the conversation, but the fact that when we reached the petrol station, my former teacher told me to put my purse away.

After that, we went through a spate of bumping into each other at the supermarket. There was one occasion that proved rather comical because it happened multiple times during the same visit. "Er, hello again. We must stop meeting like this!" Laughing  Eventually, I found myself checking he wasn't in the aisles I was approaching, as it had started to feel somewhat embarrassing and awkward. "Hello there, I'm not stalking you, I promise!"

  • I went on a holiday about 4 years after leaving school in the Middle East and we were in Jerusalem. My old Graphic Design teacher was there (also on one of those tours). My brother and sister were both still at school at that point so I guess a greater chance of him recognising me.
