Hot and cold problems

Ok so I feel hot which is to do with autism so I'm told but I still get cold especially in my hands. Last night I had my fan on and my window open and I came to freezing cold and feeling unwell. It took a while but I warmed up and felt better. But twice today I've had similar experiences where I opened the window and had the fan on and then later was freezing cold again. My skin was off colour as well.

I'm worried that I'll get hypothermia but I don't see what else can be done. I get hot and then I'm overcome with coldness when I try and beat the heat. I can't be the only one who suffers from this problem. Any advice with this would be welcome.

  • If you have an electronic ear thermometer, or can borrow one, then you can do a useful bit of detective work. When you are feeling discomfort by being too hot, and again when you are feeling too cold, but before you start to take any measures to deal with it, take your temperature. This will tell you whether you have a physical problem with fluctuating body temperature, or if the problem is of your perception of your body temperature. Do it 3 times for each temperature state, and it will be useful data to take to your GP.

  • Sensitivity to temperature is common for some stuff autism however this sounds like your body is not able to regulate its body temperature. As we're not allowed to give advice these days I will say if I were in your shoes I would see my GP tomorrow to get this checked out.

    Take care.

  • If feeling hot has to do with autism, then this is news to me. However, I am not dismissing what you have said. Whatever the cause is, it seems like there is an issue with your body regulating temperature.

Right up until I became menopausal, my problem was that I often felt cold and struggled to warm up. I'm the same now unless I'm having one of my hot flushes.

I am sorry my reply isn't helpful. Hopefully, there will be others who share the same issue and can advise.
