Preparing to go out

I'm going in to town today with my mum

:-/

But so I'm less anxious I always prepare lots in advance.

I know I'm going to be absolutely wrecked later on. The anxiety will get me and of course so will my CFS

I'm hoping I won't suffer mentally but it's a possibility sadly.

I've got my bag ready and in my bag is a bottle of water notebook and pencil banana hair brush bag of sweets torch batteries and one of my comfort bears ^^ just in case i need it

I've also put some sunglasses in as sometimes if it's too bright in shops I get overwhelmed and start to feel unwell.

From this side of things I am more than prepared.

Will I need all of that? Maybe not but at least I've got it just in case :—)

This morning I've walked Lily

I've had breakfast

I've had 2 glasses of water

And I've brushed my hair

I'm ready :-)

My mum says I think to much in to it but I think it's good to be prepared :)

  • I'm with you. Preparation is a good strategy to reduce anxiety and one that I use a lot. In addition to taking things with me 'just in case' I'll also usually prepare a route in detail using google maps and street view, so that I know what to expect.

I hope you enjoy the day. At least Sundays aren't quite as busy as Saturdays, so hopefully you won't find it quite as overwhelming.

Try and notice any signs that you might be reaching your limit and don't overdo it. There's nothing wrong with leaving a shop if it gets too much.

  • Thank you ^^

Yeah leaving shops is amazing advice

I remember you said before sometimes you leave your trolley and come back to it when your feeling ready

Today I had to leave a few shops a few times it gave me time to adjust and calm down

And then I could breathe. My mum didn't like it but it helped and it helps knowing that you do the same thing

I always used to think I was weird for getting so worked up and now I know it's ok for me.

You guys are all so amazing :—)

  • That's great to hear it went well and you were able to take steps to avoid getting too overwhelmed.

Having control is key. Just knowing you can leave and come back keeps you in control. Whereas forcing yourself to stay and endure is more likely to lead to increasing overwhelm and panic.

  • It went really well from that point and the knowing I could leave for a few minutes was nice :)

I get so anxious and overwhelmed it's nice to have a go to thing to stop that happening as much when I'm out now.

Thank you for the suggestion x
