Ditch the Telly

I tend to avoid the news but will check in occasionally to keep informed but try and take it all with a pinch of salt.

I do like binging on Netflix though, it's one thing I use as downtime, so I wouldn't want to lose that.

When my tv broke down a few years ago, I chose not to replace it.  I felt that the licence fee does not provide enough tv programmes which I would be interested in.  I now listen to the radio (some good documentaries and good comedy on there) or get my news online.

I don't watch the news or any TV anymore. I've got my DVDs and continue to buy the DVDs I like, everything else on the TV is of no interest to me. My parents are the same now.

No news is good news. True, surprisingly, for me at least. I used to watch the news but it was all upsetting, depressing and stressful for me so I stopped it all in the end.

It seems like we used to have more short news items in the past. They now seem to spend a long time on one subject. 

The quality of programmes seems to have gone downhill. I remember enjoying some good dramas and comedy programmes years ago which were good to relax. I was recently looking to see what was on I player and the other free ones and it seems that a lot of old series are now on things you have to pay for. 

I haven’t had a television for 30 years.

I have tried to avoid any TV, internet, newspaper, radio  news and sports results for eight days now.  I feel much more at peace with myself and the world.

I have had to limit my exposure to all news content. I realised it was making me unhappy and my being so informed and engaged helped no one.

Not quite - the scale and nature of the crimes is far and above worse than the atrocities the Israeli troops were doing in Palestine.

I'm sure there is a degree of lies and amplification on the go but the Israelies have every right to be horrified.

Also bear in mind the effectiveness of the pro-Israeli media and interest groups. You will be attacked and accused of all sorts if you try to go against them.

Was there a serious humanitarian issue on the go in Palestine for decades - absolutely. Atrocities were committed on both sides, but an escalation of this nature against civilians (including babies and the elderly plus rapes and all the other stuff being claimed) is beyond supporting.

I stopped having a TV about 5 years ago and have not looked back - without the constand drip feed of whatever news the channel wants to peddle it is easier to live without the constant fear it leaves in the back of your mind.

I don't think there are any really trustworthy media sources any more so filtering out the substance from the bias is a challenge.

The shift is complete apart from a handfull of outliers. Here in Brazil I haven't used cash for months such is the extent of digital payments, so I don't even have smaller notes or coins to give to the many beggars in the street, I guess once they are eventually eliminated it will be easier for Big Brother to keep an eye on all that we do.
