Serves me right! ;-)

It all started on Sunday. Something had put me in a negative mood and I had done my usual trick of ruminating, to the extent that it had been difficult to switch my mind off and sleep, despite feeling in dire need of some shut-eye. It was the early hours of Tuesday morning when my brain finally got the memo that I did genuinely need to sleep.

After spending much of Tuesday sleeping, I awoke late at night with a foul migraine. Unlike some migraine sufferers, I never get any warning signs of a migraine beforehand. Furthermore, pain relief for migraines doesn't work for me, so it's a matter of letting a migraine run its course.

Not helping matters was that prior to falling asleep, I had put my central heating on as my son and I had been feeling cold, but had forgotten to turn it off before I fell asleep. If there is one thing my head cannot tolerate when I suffer a migraine, it's heat., even though the rest of my body can be in need of it. To cool my head down, I decided to take myself off for a walk around the well-lit areas of my housing estate. It must have been around 11pm at night, and thankfully it was quiet. Whilst it helped, it wasn't enough to completely ease my migraine.

On Wednesday morning, I had been due to attend an appointment. Unfortunately, my son ended up cancelling and rebooking it. In hindsight, it was just as well because it wasn't long before I found myself making repeated visits to my bathroom to throw up. As can be the case when I have a migraine, I couldn't keep anything down, which in this instance had been sips of water.

Whilst my migraine still hasn't completely eased off, it is better than it was. It was quite a relief when I awoke today and found myself able to drink fluids again.

Is there a moral to this tale? No, not really. Despite knowing that lack of sleep and leaving the central heating on can trigger migraines, I dare say it's a mistake I will inevitably go on to make again at some point in the not-too-distant future.
