What sounds do you hear at night?

Homebird

As I lay awake last night, for a while there were lots of sounds. If they are not sudden they can help me fall asleep. However if I don't recognize them I try to work out what they are before I get to sleep.

Last night as the air was still I heard trains, plane, cars passing nearby, distant hum of cars and boy racers. 

Sometimes I also hear helicopters and a hum of something in the distance.

Sometimes it is wildlife. I have been pleased recently to hear an owl a couple of times.

  • Just my stupid, stupid thoughts, most of all. 

    Since it's been so hot I've been sleeping with a fan on an now I think I'm addicted to the fan being on. It really nicely flattens everything else out. I don't hear people upstairs or outside or in the hall. I just hear fan. I think I like it. 

    Otherwise, in silence, I hear a lone owl outside my window who hoot hoos late at night. 

    When I'm in London I hear foxes fucking. That's so noisy.

    I believe that the bloodcurdling sounds are not them actually "doing" that, but advertising a ready and willing attitude to do so.  It's loud because it is a broadcast of intent....not a scream of pain nor satisfaction.
