I'm shopping for a used excavator...

Ever since watching "Goldrush Alaska" I've been seized with the urge to drive an excavator.

They are the ninja ballerina of the plant world. crane, digger, small dozer, they do it all...

Worse, since I can fix most things (eventually) it's not a foolish wish.

I priced up a course, but it's thousands.

Whereas if you are in the right place at the right time a wounded mini excavator can be had for around 1-2 thousand pounds depending on what's up with it.

Sooner or later I'll find one that's near enough and looks fixable at a reasonable cost...

Anyone else get the urge to own unusual stuff?

  • I lived close to the huge JCB factories in Staffordshire where the classic yellow diggers are made for several years. They had a demonstration ground where these beautiful machines would perform what is absolutely ballet, it was stunning, exquisite, delicate. I’ve always loved engineering and indeed had a very successful career in purchasing management in engineering buying castings, turned components, electronics etc such as these are made from so totally get your passion for these creations.
