Does anyone else like boybands?

I'm a bit of a contradiction. I care a lot about what people think of me as a person, but I don't really care about what they think of my special interests. People over the years have had things to say about me (26, male) being a fan of boybands but it doesn't put me off.

I had friends who also had the same interest (one of many reasons I'm gutted I don't hear from them anymore).

My interest is in the music and the harmonies (and performance). I like a good pop song that's an earworm, but I also like hearing technically good vocals.

It's mainly British/Irish boybands I'm fond of. Take That, One Direction and Westlife would be at the forefront, while I also have a soft spot for The Wanted and JLS.

In 2022, I went to my first concert - I travelled to London to see Westlife at Wembley Stadium. I planned to have a few people with me but I am awful at planning so I went alone. It was fun but I felt a bit vulnerable. This year though JLS are going on tour so I might go and see them. Take That are apparently touring next year too.

I think my favourite boyband song in recent years is Westlife's Hello My Love. I also like Take That's Patience & Shine, JLS' Everybody in Love amongst others.

  • I love music, it's one of my biggest passions and I think my special interest as I own so many CDs and records. I also devote much of my time to actually reading about the singers and their history. I'm like an encyclopedia on it now.

I think my favourite boyband is Take That followed very closely by One Direction. I own all their albums and am a huge fan of all their music!

You're really lucky having seen one of your favourites live. I've always wanted to see a live performance but no such luck for me. Sad that both groups I love aren't really a group anymore either. I was lucky that I got to see Elton John - another of my favourite singers - live at Glastonbury this year, so it's not all bad Blush

  • I've had an interest in the charts for a while, so I could probably easily tell you whether a One Direction song went to number one in the UK or not (for example). I'm a bit weird in that I'm interested in the technicalities as much if not more.

I saw One Direction's whole journey through X Factor and stayed a fan. I think Take That I became aware of over the years and became a fan too.

Elton John at Glastonbury must have been an electric atmosphere to be a part of!
