TUMMYACHE

I get the tummy ache every day, and sometimes its so painful I can't do anything except lie down. I cant always go to the toilet either, even though I want to. The doctor who diagnosed me said a lot of Asperger Syndrome people get tummyache.

Has anyone got any ideas what I can do about it, as I am fed up of it. My GP said to drink more but I already do drink a lot of water.

I get very hungry as well, so its not affecting my appetite.

  • Hi - the points made by the other 2 posters are right.  If you aren't getting nauseous then it's probably not stomach acid.  If it's constipation then as your Dr said you must drink enough liquid.  Have you tried fruit juices and do you eat enough roughage such as vegetables, fruit with the skins on, things like that.  If you gut isn't relaxed because you're anxious I think there's something you can take which is supposed to help that.  Whether you need to go back to ask your Dr, or have a chat with the pharmacist instead?

  • It's probably IBS if it's not anxiety (although IBS is exacerbated by anxiety).  It can be agonising.

  • We tend to think of our brains being in our heads but other parts of the body seem to be in tune with what is happening in our heads.

Your stomach responds to stress, partly because there are muscular structures there which get knotted up under stress, but also because stress alters chemical imbalances, and may release more acids into the stomach.

Also there are medical issues relating tio autism which someone else may be better placed to comment upon.

Unfortunately because your stomach starts responding, it adds to your stress worrying about your stomach. It may be useful to do some relaxation exercises.

  • What are you eating ? You may be eating/drinking something regularly that disagrees with you. I fart like mad when I eat cheese. It could be something simple like wheat/milk etc that you eat everyday, the only way to find out is by writing everything down and missing certain foods for a few days at a time to see if there is any difference.
