Camhs Refused to Diagnose

Hi

I am wanting advice if possible please. My son has speech delay and global development delay. He was assessed by camhs for autism in June. Today I have had the phone call about outcome diagnosis. They have said that they are unable to diagnose because he likes to interact socially with peers and his one to one at school. All other factors in the assessment show autism traits. They have said they can't assess for adhd  even though he is 6, developmentally he is is not 6. Therefore have to wait a few years and they will asess then. She did say she's 100% sure they will see us again in a few years time, but obviously cannot put that in report.

I suppose my question is, Is there any other route I can go down to get a second opinion or another autism assessment?

Any advise is appreciated

Thankyou

  • Yes you can go through the GP and ask for a screening for autism or adhd (though they are strongly associated with each other) with a family psychologist or similar institution, the waiting list is long, but if you appeal via email to the practice manager they may be able to put you ahead.. that’s exactly what I did.. we are not allowed to give advice as per guidelines, so I have just told you my experience, I hope it’s relevant to you..
