It's about to get dark!

I started a zoom "film night" after Christmas with the intent of providing a safe social "venue" for people here, which until last week I delivered every week.

However, now Zoom has added a mandatory ten minute break to every 40 minutes it gives us, it's become neccesary to suspend the "service" until I can find a better way of streaming.

We tried using my discord server last week, but it was more messing about that I was willing to absorb at the time.

We've found a workaround this week for the zoom issue, (use two accounts) and log into them alternately, to get rid of the annoying break.

My one regular "client" (the reason I didn't give it up months ago when I realised there was no real demand for it here!) expressed an interest last week in watching "Breaking Bad" and today whilst accompanying a friend to a charity shop I spied the entire box set for £3...

Tomorrow (unless he's really keen to get started with BB)  I'll run the film scheduled for last week, "A for Andromeda" at the usual time and usual zoom address.

At some point however, "film night" is going to get dark...

  • Have you considered Teams as the sharing platform.

I looked at the price of Zoom pro and it was US$680/year compared to US$4/month ($48/year) for Teams - and you get meetings of up to 30 hours in length at a time.

I haven't used it for streaming videos like this but suspect if you have a good upload speed it would be fine at a sensible resolution.

Just a thought - shame it is Micrsoft mind you.
