toothpaste

I'm upset. my mouth is STINGING. it burns it hurts all because of stupid STUPID toothpaste. why does it have to hurt? why why why? why do only children get to not hurt when they brush their teeth? Please please help, does anybody know of toothpaste suitable for those with all their adult teeth that is NOT mint flavoured? I am using aquafresh 'mild and minty' which is a complete LIE it is NOT mild AT ALL AND I'M SO MAD.

  • Try toothpowder, it doesn't sting.

  • My daughter is 5 she uses Oral nurse toothpaste its tasteless. Before using this she refused to brush her teeth she said normal childrens toothpaste burned.

  • Hi - I don't know if this applies to you, but there is a condition called "burning mouth syndrome".  It can be provoked by toothpaste or dentures + maybe possibly other dental work.  Doctors aren't really sure.  Arm + Hammer toothpaste, which has baking soda in it can be helpful for some with this syndrome, even tho it has a bit of a minty flavour.

  • You can buy toothpaste from health food shops, and usually the staff are knowledgeable about the products so might know which ones are strong.  These toothpastes will also be likely to contain less harmful ingredients as it's not only the mintiness that causes your mouth to sting, it's the chemical additives.

I find toothpaste makes my mouth water profusely even after a really good rinse so I have to stand over the sink until the watering has stopped and I no longer have to repeatedly spit into the sink.

  • I've had the same problem and when I mentioned it to my dentist he actually recommended using Aquafresh 'Big Teeth' toothpaste. It's still mint flavoured but I personally find it a lot milder than the adult toothpastes and being formulated for 'Big Teeth' it is more suitable than the fruity/sweet flavoured toothpastes that are aimed at younger kids.

Alternatively, it might be worth looking in Holland and Barrett as I know I've seen non-minty toothpastes in there in the past. A quick look on their website shows that there is a pomegranet toothpaste available. I've never tried it myself so I can't say what it's like but it could be worth a try.
