Summer jobs for an Aspie, before uni?!

Hi,

I'm trying to help my son with this. He is very reluctant (and I would be happy if he just stayed at home with me all summer!) but I know it will do him some good. He has a little bit of money to take away to uni but doesn't feel he needs to earn any more because he won't go out etc. once there. It's not that simple once you get there though!!!

So, what jobs might people suggest? He's very typical in that he doesn't like the idea of being front-facing in a shop or restaurant etc. I think he'd be quite happy in a back office somewhere filling in a spreadsheet but we live in a very small town with very few opportunities for that kind of thing. He is also pretty fixated on languages (his subject for university) and finds it hard to think outside of that box!

ANY help would be gratefully received please!!!!!

Thank you!

  • What would be really good in terms of his experience in his career is if he can get summer  internships related to the area he’s studying. I know one girl who studied forensics who managed to get an internship with a Police lab. It’s probably easier to do between your second and third or third and fourth year and if you haven’t arranged it by this stage it’s probably not going to be an option for this summer. Still it’s something to keep in mind in the future.
