How much do you talk?

For me not a lot.

I find talking difficult. I don't know what to say, how to make my face react along with speech. I find it overwhelming and exhausting. I also suffer from CFS as well as autism and even a short conversation requires me to have a 20 min nap so I reclaim some much needed energy.

When I was little I didn't talk much then. I find that I need to judge whether it's worth me speaking, which sometimes I feel makes me come across a little rudely when I'm not I'm just trying to do what's best for me.

Sometimes I talk to myself, not in a crazy way mind, just where I say what I'm thinking which helps me think and work things out.

Generally I stay silent though. Talking is tiring and it's stressful. I feel happier when I'm saying nothing.

  • It depends who I'm with. I can meet up with some people who I communicate with on the "same level" and we don't stop talking for hours and its easy. On the other hand, with others, ususlly groups, I can be VERY quiet but what is happening is EVERYTHING is going in and being analysed and processed. With some, the expectation and response required of me takes a lot of brain power. It has always been this way but is now much harder with what's akin to cfs (but goes by another name). I can lose the thread in the middle of speaking and have difficulty processing others - it's like time stops - it's tiring! I struggle if I don't get clear cues but if I do, I am fine and can chatter away. I am naturally more of a listener though.

Also it depends what we are talking about.  I talk to myself a lot but the most "talking" comes from my own brain to myself through thoughts. THAT is tiring.

People forget the importance of listening and often put more value on speaking. Oftentimes I find people are not actually listening.

I sometimes do that, but sometimes my brain just can't keep up and I have no idea what is being said. This is very bad in job interviews.

    Too true!
