Calming stuff and music, guilty pleasures?

So in the past year or so (not sure how long that is), I listen to A-ha Scoundrel Days album when I'm stressed, on the tram or need to "ground" myself. Listening now just because a dog touched me twice in the pub and I don't want to go home and shower. Anyone else have owt similar in terms of go to music?

It's a guilty pleasure to me as I'm generally more alternative/indie. What's your guilty pleasure?

  • I don't think I really have any guilty pleasures. If someone looked at all the music I've listened to in the last year they might raise an eyebrow at some/most/all of it but I don't feel ashamed that I've listened to one 40 minute ambient track from a game every day to stay calm at difficult moments. I'm a 34 year old man and I've got out my knitting on the tube before.

My pleasures are open for anyone who asks to see. It's my fears and struggles that I'd rather most people didn't know.

It is pretty important that you share these with someone as they have a habit of growing and becoming intrusive when left unchecked.

For your fears that you don't want to share, hire a therapist once every month or three and work though these. They can suggest techniques to control this and overcome the fears.

For your struggles, if you want to share them here then you will probably find much shared experience to draw on that can help. You are anonymous to us so there is no issue of being shamed in real life over it.

Just some thoughts - no need to carry those burdons on your own.

  • Yeah, I meant just in terms of general openness.

Like anyone I know can know about the things I enjoy, but I'm not saying that I have an eating disorder and I wake up terrified every night unless someone actually needs to know, or it's an anonymous place like this or they're a professional and it's confidential and important.
