Recreation centre for Autistic children and their families

Hi,

I have this thought I can't get out of my head since reading this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Spark-Mothers-Nurturing-Genius/dp/0241145627/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381337758&sr=8-1&keywords=the+spark  The Authors enthusiasm for giving autistic children a chance in life is so infectious. She set up a recreation centre for Autistic children and their families near where they live in America called Jacobs Place, it's somewhere where all of the family of the autistic child can go and just have fun, no therapy just fun. Loads of us forget what it was like to go out as a family and not worry about meltdowns or the funny things our children are doing, we worry about strange looks and being told we are disturbing people. It made me think how wonderful it would be to have a place like. We could put on activities and no matter how small the achievement celebrate our children's milestones together. There could be sports to play, movies, games, craft activities... At the moment this is just a thought, an idea and there might already be such a place that I couldn't find. Anyway just wanted to float this idea and see what your thoughts are, would appreciate a place like this near where you live ? have you heard of any being set up ? I could only find ones for 18 years and older.

Thanks, Arabella (Mother of Iris who is 4 years old and Autistic.)
