All are welcome as ever.

The comprehensive details can be found in my original post "film night!!" elsewhere on this site.

  • I came back here to talk about the film I just watched, but notice that there has been some "modding" of the Zoom details.

I'm not sure that the poster did break the rules, as the Zoom Address I use for films is pretty anonymous. The password is changeable at my end, and the meeting address is the actual means of inviting people to your meeting. It's not social media either in it's operation, and explicitly described my me as "anti-social media" This action doesn't protect anyone as far as I can see, except from the hazards of watching SUCH A CREEPY FILM as we did this week!!

My, that was an engaging film, I spent most of it telling Tom Cruises character, "oh no, you don't want to be doing that"...

FWIW, I make people search for the original post, precisely to limit the exposure of the details to humans who read the weekly advert I put up and then make the search if they are interested in attending. I should make that more clear when I post the weekly ad I guess...

To be honest, no one from here ever comes.

I don't understand it, it seems like such a good idea, which served me well as a recipient in my youth such that I got SOME social life, (which many people her complain about lacking) and the zoom format seems wonderfully suited to letting the clients interact on their terms as much or as little as they like. It's being kept available by a couple friends who seem to really enjoy the service, one in particular.

But I'd like it to serve this community to be honest, it's why I started it here, after all.

If any of you out there know why I'm not reaching people here, and could do it better, please step up and feel feel to take over running "ASD Film Night". I'm sure it could be useful to some here to simply feel less isolated whilst controlling how "less isolated" they want to be from others.

In terms of "managing" it, I've only ever had to "mute" one person during a film, (but I needed to make some noise at the time, I can't remember why now). I advertise a six O'clock prompt start, which I usually manage to achieve or get acceptably close to. (There's a well fudged sentence if ever there was one!)

I think it needs more than just simple "reliable service provision", there's some "X" factor I'm missing.

But it's still giving me what I wanted, An opportunity to develop a solid track record of doing something for once, on time, every time for a long period of time. I was afraid I'd have no ability to do that at all.

  • You've been caring for and entertaining cats, and trying to solve new energy challenges, and done the army, and done the flying and parachuting, and droning, and film club......I could go on but it's boring.

You're all right mucker.  6pm on a Sunday ain't gonna work for most.....it's probs that more than anything.

Eyes Wide Shut is a very educative display.  Memorable.

  • I'd be interested in watching the matrix again too.

  • Red pill or blue pill choice = key scene in the movie.  Take one, and everything stays "normal" or take the other and you enter the rabbit hole of "true" reality.

In the movie, taking both pills was not an option.........so that is what I would have been minded to do.

  • I love the first Matrix film.  My kinda Hollywood blend that is.  For the record, I took both the red and the blue!

  • If you have The Matrix I have never seen this and *may* be interested but cannot guarantee I would ever turn up.

What about showing a series? It might encourage more "regular" attendance and people returning.

  • Indeed...or else I would have seen myself off as a toddler, and every fortnight forever thereafter!

No point in giving up a the first signs of adversity
  • There's an episode of "Stargate" where O'Neill gets trapped in a time loop for a LONG time, which is way funnier than groundhog day...

I was going to do all the Gerry Anderson series UFO which I have on a CD, but currently despite being carefully stored, it appears to have become unrecoverable on the modern CD/DVD doohickeys everything has now. I'm scouring all my stashes for a bog standard dell CD drive which IF I remember right, will read any CD..

I'm currently scouring second hand shops which sell DVD's for stupidly little money, for classic films and find that the staff look disappointed when you pay for five, but only take 2...

I'm currently looking into alternative methods of providing the streaming, but zoom seems to do the job very well by all accounts, one of my regulars watches it in another country..

There's also some people locally who run an aspergers Zoom meeting and it's only stupid forgetfulness on my part and my unavailability during their regular sessions that's stopped me asking them so far..

But what start time will THEY want??

(You are right, it is funny!)

I'm probably going to do a relaunch using all the films that I know to have universal appeal and ALSO which I know my regulars want to see again at the six month point, which will give me an easier time for a month or two in terms of service delivery, and if it hasn't worked at that point, call it a day. Unless my regulars indicate that it's run it's course, then it will have genuinely proven itself to be a useless activity.

No point in giving up a the first signs of adversity!

  • In light of this conversation and it's historical context, may I suggest "Groundhog Day" for your next film?!

    Keep smiling.

  • I started at 8:00P.M. which I reasoned was well after dinner and when most people settle down for some T.V. but that didn't work and most suggestions were around "start earlier" so I did that..

And I know I'm alright, I was hoping to try and help others be a bit more "alright" in a way that worked for me when I was at my loneliest, and provide a genuinely Autistic friendly service.

Where I am not alright, is that I don't understand why when I make an effort to promote it a bit more skillfully, (which I don't like doing, as I may have mentioned previously) people express interest, then don't actually follow through...

It's hard to phrase my enquiry without sounding "complainy", but I'm actually much more mystified than Irked at the ongoing failure of Film Night to attract any "customers".

    It is what It is.
