Feedback on my video for my Ma

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to listen to some of my singing? I'm doing a video for my Ma for her birthday but would appreciate some honest feedback first so I don't make a fool myself! 

I hope it's ok to put the link here. The video isn't for profit and there's nothing identifying in it, just some talking and singing and a picture of the blue sky.

My Ma is a big fan of Elvis and Fame and Fortune is her favourite song so that's the one I'm attempting.

  • I’m not familiar with the song (is it from the movie Fame?) but you clearly hold a good tune and are an impressive mimic of Elvis’ style. Coincidentally I was watching the Late Late show last night and Michael Buble was on there, and -showing his influences, what he’s taken from each artist- did a pitch perfect Elvis and said that the trick was a ‘quick vibrato’ (I think I get what he means) combined with not letting any vowel linger too long (he demonstrated the opposite in his Frank Sinatra). Anyway, I think you show the same knack for that kind of understanding of technique and mimicry and I’m sure you ma will love it.

    I'm not entirely sure. I think it's from one of movies but I don't know which.

    I'm lucky that my voice is naturally deep so it's fairly at home with an Elvis Presley tune, though nowhere near as good it's fair to say! 

    I like Michael Bublé. He's got an impressive voice and has quite a good range. I always think of him as a mix of Elvis and Sinatra. He has that deep soulful tone.
