Seeking advice, from the Car Enthusiasts

My 2015 Vauxhall Insignia White Diesel will undergo it's MOT next Thursday. However, there's a local salesman willing to let me trade her for a Volkswagen Jetta Diesel Black Automatic. Not sure of year, but £20 road tax.

I never drove an Automatic before, due to prices.

I did remember the issue with Diesel engines on VWs, a few years back. Anything to look out for there?

  • The diesel issue was to do with the emissions being much higher than Volkswagen said they were in the testing as they rigged the software to make the results comply with regulations. Then people did their own ‘real world’ tests and found the NOx emissions to be far higher than allowed. Jettas were one of the effected models although I’m not sure which years so the Jetta is likely to produce a lot of pollution for a £20 tax car. Without knowing the year it would be hard to compare the specs with your Insignia. Automatics aren’t hard to get used to I drove one in Australia, feels a bit lazy after many years of driving manual! I did often put it in semi automatic mode, especially for changing down. It might be worth a test drive depending on what type of automatic transmission it is it may feel a bit sluggish or unresponsive compared to the control you have in a manual car especially for overtaking manoeuvres where you would shift down in manual
