Preparing for ....battle?

This is a follow up to my post of last week "thank you".  I have been given an appointment with a consultant psychiatrist (in respect of Asperger assessment) following my  written complaint to my local NHS authority - my GP refused to refer me.

I have now received 3 letters in response to my letter of 25th Sept.  Ist letter on 30th Sept from Sussex Mental Health Services confirming appointment with consultant.  2nd letter Oct 2nd from E Sussex Complaints Team advising that my complaint had been forwarded to NHS England.  3rd letter Oct 2nd from NHS England advising my complaint has been allocated a ref no and will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

I'm confused.  I suspect that the sequence is such that my GP has been advised of my complaint and subsequently arranged the referral to the consultant.  And if that is the case I do not know what to expect.  Am I about to do battle with a doctor who has been pre-warned that I am causing trouble ...... or will this be a professional open-minded assessment without the bias I have encountered to date?

Or am I just becoming obsessive and paranoid?!

  • It just sounds like PALS are a bit tardy in producing their correspondence and therefore probably instructed the GP to refer you and then got round to responding to your complaint a few days later.

You ought to still follow-through with the complaint regardless of having got the assessment appointment because the Trust needs to know that adults cannot be fobbed off that way and it still happened to you, even if you have the appointment now.

Don't expect to do battle with the consultant, it was your GPs fault not theirs.  Best to go with an open mind or you might derail things.
