Animal Club

My 7 year old asd son started at an animal club a few weeks ago. His older brother joined and when we took him for the first time my asd son was fasinated by the different animals so I stayed with him and we all joined in. He has gone every week with his brother and now does not want me to stay with him. They have lots of differnet animals from chickens and pigs to alpacas and snakes to rabbits and chipmunks. The people who run the club have been very understanding and helpful and are prepared with flash cards if they need them. He has never joined in at a club this way before and he is learning so much about how to look after aimals and just be nice to them. There should be more of these clubs about and I highly recommend this type of club as we all know how difficult it is with our asd children socialising.

  • I've always wanted to get my hands on lambs. Frown  I saw newborn ones yesterday, tiny, wrinkly, pathetic looking, and I was ever so tempted to steal one and take it home.  The urge was overwhelming but I didn't cos it'd miss its sibling and I didn't have the energy to walk off with two of them. • Thanks for your reply.

We have bought a German Shepherd and it has been great. Callum (my autisitc son) loves her and although he can sometimes be rough or nasty to her she doesn't bat an eyelid and just accepts him. She is called Tia and is very protective of him and follows him around showing great interest in what he is doing (he has her wrapped in tinsel the other day!).

Animal club starts again on Monday and Callum is aalready excited, it is such a shame that it doesn't run in the holidays.

I will keep you posted with updates
