Film night just won't die!

I've read an awful lot of posts on this forum about how "socially isolated" people are.

People complain that they"see no-one" and that "it's difficult to go out" and these are problems I faced and largely overcame when I was a young I Sperg.

Part of what did me good was a film night hosted in a shared house by a guy by the name of Chris Beckett, (who's no longer with us) and who like me had all the social magnetism of a muddy puddle, but fairly decent taste in films. (until democracy intervened, and the fayre changed to more mainstream stuff, which I can find full of nasty evil acts and challenging to watch)

As an (at the time undiagnosed) Autist I liked the semi informed silence that watching a film imposes. I also liked the fact that when conversation returned it tended to be about the film we had all just watched, and therefore although there were multiple people, I had a much better chance if engaging successfully, until the conversation got more neurotypical. and fo course over time friendships formed (or existed already) and film night at Chris Becketts worked for me for a long time..

SO I figured maybe I could provide such a service here, but where people didn't even have to go out of their house, or show their face or even speak!

Every Sunday Evening at 8:00pm unsharp I've streamed a film, since just after Christmas, and apart from one person, once, no-one from here showed up!

I can understand why some of you might not like the idea, but all of you?

I'm less miffed about it's "failure" than I might be because a couple of personal friends have showed up each week, one who I asked to help me be reliable and one who just likes a film, but I am bloody curious as to why it's been no good for any of you! Especially as there was quite a lot of positive chat at the beginning...

Film night continues, but we are taking a dark post apocalyptic turn right now. Probably going to show either "Threads" or "bridesmaids" this week...

  • We/I'm just experimenting a bit with alternatives, so IF I may confirm it here in this thread a bit later in the week.

Currently it's the zoom account given in the original film night!! (with two exclamation marks) but I'll confiirm it and which film we are watching on Friday if possible.

I start at 8pm unsharp, and the first forced break is about 30 mins in.

The three of us who have done all the film nights together so far, are prepared to watch the really good ones again, if it ever garners a following here, but at the moment we are paying whatever one of us wants and can put their hands on a stream for, or a selection of films bought for me when I ran out of the first ten or so "great films" There are only a few films with really "universal" appeal I think. YMMV
