....aka Battle Of The Borage
There have been rumblings for the past week or so but I thought now would be as good a time as any to get the show started. Today I sowed between 16 and 20 seeds.
I thought it might be nice for any members who want to join in to sow borage seeds and chat about it. We all know bees and pollinators need a helping hand and this is a lovely plant we can have in our gardens to help. The flowers are pretty star shaped blue, sometimes pink or purple. You can eat the flowers or put in ice cubes and you can use the leaves to make borage fertiliser for the garden.
I thought it might be a nice way to unite online friends by doing something remote in real life.
It does self seed so I take no responsibility if you end up with more next year! The more the merrier. Apologies if you have no outdoor space. Maybe do a bit of guerilla gardening if you can
This post was inspired by Jamie (who I cannot tag for some reason) and Number
So lets help our wildlife!
"No-one can do everything but everyone can do something".
I have no idea. There is the adage "right plant right place" however I mostly just shove things in and see what happens. I love gardening but often have difficulty knowing where to start and feel personal responsibility if something perishes on my watch. It's one of a few things which completely immerses me (once I get going) so a very mindful hobby. I do find it's a good way to connect with others; my grandad was a keen gardener and this has passed on through the family. I'm sure your dad would be proud.
Also mostly everyone does a *bit* of gardening so it's a good bit of small talk to have in the back pocket.
Cool thread! Actually makes interesting reading, especially if you are an aspiring gardener like me. Everything I try and grow dies though, flower and veg wise, am I over watering?
Since my dad died I've been active in the garden cutting back the hedge and brambles, uncovering the steps round the front of the house... Hard work but rewarding and I know my dad would be proud.
One step too far
One step beyonnnnd!

Groovy.
I'm hoping if I say this here amongst the general "nobble" that no one will notice...and that i will be one step ahead....but I have now planted out 9 borage plants into - the - ground.
Which is why I needed to share. It's a special thing to think....in many contexts!
Thanks for the clarification. I understand now. I've recently fallen hopelessly infatuated myself, with a young Cossack lady I met in a video the other day, so for once I really do understand.
(Just hope the O/H doesn't actually read this...)
That's actually much funnier than it should be
Maybe. For some reason your post prompts me to consider rewriting the lyrics to Kraftwerks "We are the Robots" to "We are the Autists". (do, dee dee, do!)
I HAVE to go listen to that track now....

Just thought of this, and needed to share........perhaps I am Autism Powers, the distant cousin of Austin?
Yes.....I stand by all earlier comments made regarding the film...but remind you that it is a RomCom and that I find Kate Beckensale Sooooo easy on the eyes that my personal bias and clammy adolescent admiration of her might have clouded my best Barry Norman judgement.
Number said:I can recommend the film to anyone who has an interest in coincidence, Jungian sycronicity and other such related "weird" stuff....that's basically the whole point of that film.
Having now used up all my "universally good" category films, I'm looking for fresh input. Last night was the first really duff film night we've had so far, technical problems forced the abandonment of the planned programme, and the back up film although enjoyed, was sub par compared to the quality items we've got used to.. That looked like a solid lead to me.
....with some films, is it not best just to stick with the memories? I haven't seen it for long-time.
One for film night maybe?
Apart from by myself. I wanted to see what the leaves tasted like before they got too hairy!
So, some of the borage that I thought was borage is in fact NOT borage but SUN FLOWERS mis-labelled as borage. These are the predominately "snail munched" "borages". The actual ones are, thankfully, very much un-nibbled.
I will add them to the 'nature pics' thread.
I will have to do some sorting 1st anyway
If you dont mind, I'd rather keep it loosely around borage so won't be changing the title but I'd love to see your bees! Or we could start a new thread for garden critters....
(Sorry it took so long to reply...I've been trying to relinquish my inner control freak when it comes to some social interactions. I also feel like it's not for me to say what people should and shouldn't post as it's a free country and this is a public forum also I thought it was really nice that you asked).
Show us yer bees Debbie!
