Sometimes I love the internet

It's very good for looking up information where I just got the wrong end of the stick.

My interaction with live People is so limited, I misunderstand common words and phrases to the point of embarrassment.

Today I discovered what "Tupperware parties" meant.  Previously I thought it was housewives modelling sexy underwear.

  • Interesting that you say that.......I remember thinking the same thing when I was a boy.

Perhaps it is something about the word that sounds salacious....or perhaps Morecombe and Wise had made jokes about it that I misinterpreted.  I think there were quite a few "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" jokes that revolved around ANY type of all-women meetings back in those days.

I was lucky to have a mum who was a walking encyclopedia and who was always happy to answer all my questions.....and I did have A LOT of questions when I was a kid!

These days, I also use the internet mainly to learn things.  My most recent realisation (a bit like yours about Tupperware) was when I learned that the dessert "Eaton Mess" is not spelt "Eaten Mess"!

Although the internet is amazing, I would still prefer to ask my mum, but she is now long dead.
