Book problem

I have a Kindle but prefer to read an ordinary book. There's something nice about the smell of books and the feeling of holding a real one.

I have a big collection which I've read so many times. In 2016 I had a mental breakdown and I'm only just starting to recover again. During that time I didn’t find books appealing and wasn't interested in reading. Sadly my books just gathered dust and now some of the pages at the top are marked. I've given them a gentle clean but they won't budge. It's so annoying as they were in excellent condition. It's putting me off from using the books now. I'll attach a pic do you know if there's anything I can do? What the marks are? Could cry at seeing the condition of the books.

  • The books should be fine to read as long as it hasn't gotten down into the pages themselves but it looks like it could be mould. Give them a sniff and see if they have a mould or musky smell that isn't the usual book smell.
If it is mould the fix for this needs to be very carefully done so as to not wet and warp the pages, but if you put cilit bang mould remover in a shallow dish and dab a bit of it onto a kitchen roll (not tissue because tissue disintegrates) put weight on the book sides to keep the pages tight and then just gently dab and wipe the marks with the kinten roll they will go damp a little bit but being pressed tight should dry back in place.
