Spiders.. who is a fan?

Hello.

So I don't like spiders... i hate them so very much, i don't want them to live outdoors happily out of sight as i know they will ALWAYS find their way back in the house so i want them dead.

To be clear, I don't have a phobia of them and i can kill one myself (if they are small and slow enough and my husband is not around haha) although i prefer that i am not the one that does the deed.

However, my point is, they are fast, they have EIGHT legs, they are light, hang off anything which means they can practically fly and be invisible, so they are a nightmare waiting to happen.

The nightmare being they touch me  with their 8 legs. you know the saying "that makes my skin crawl".. well, that is what it feels to me. the thought of feeling their tiny footprints all over me is repulsive and maybe abit terrifying.

i am just curious... is that a thing for anybody else? (could be with a different creature etc)

thanks

  • I don't think you are alone in this. My best mate at university used to wake me in the middle of the night to de-spider her room for her. A glass and a bit of paper to round it up and pop it outside two at the morning...

Personally, I like spiders. They're sweet. I feel a tad guilty for cleaning up their cobwebs. They do eat other more bothersome household bugs for us.

Don't think this is an autistic thing especially, many an NT feels as you do. But either way, you're not alone I'm sure.

  • Best ones to keep in the house are daddy long legs (not to be confused with crane flies) as they hunt other spiders and it's well known a daddy long legs bite could never break human skin so they are a very safe species to have around.
I also give free room and board to cross orb weavers coming in from the cold and jumping spiders which are also not known for biting (and the jumpers are pretty cute actually).

Solid colour species and any with ominous looking back ends will get evicted though, but that's because they set off some other kind of alarm bells not because they are spiders.
