Can you look yourself in the eye?

A quick question from me to satisfy my curiosity really. Can you make eye contact with yourself? I.e. in the mirror, during video calls or recordings etc.

I have found that I struggle to do this. It makes me feel the same discomfort I feel with others. I remember using video recordings and conferences during the pandemic and found that during those, I could never really look at myself. I’m the same in the mirror- I can check my face, beard etc. but not my eyes.

Just interested to see if others experience the same or not.

  • I hate looking at myself on screen in video calls. I tend to focus on the mouth, not the eyes, of other participants.

Looking in the mirror isn't something I do much and when I do I don't usually look at my eyes. I wear glasses so that's all I see in the eyes area. If I take my glasses off, well I cant see very much at all!

Same with photos. There are very few photos of me as an adult. The ones of me as a child I'm usually either disappearing out of the picture or crying because I hated having my photo taken so much.
