The IOC has announced that it may be possible for athletes from Russia and Belarus, to take part in the Paris 2024 Olympics, if they compete under an independant flag. But up to 40 other countries have said, if this happens, they will boycott Paris. Without 40 countries it could hardly be called a world event. If they all did pull out, including the GB and USA, i feel really sorry for all the atheletes who have trained so long and so hard. What's the point of an Olympics with so many missing.
And by banning Russian athletes, will this put more pressuse on Putin, how would he explain that to the-man-in-the-street in Moscow ?
