Dear All,
I am making no or little progress in obtaining help. I contacted Emergency Social Care in November about my elderly father. Nothing has happened so far as I am told that there is a crisis in Social Care and only critical care is currently provided. I have been trying to have a Carer Support plan written for myself. Basically, it only says that I am struggling with health issues myself and cannot manage my father alone. I am a mature student living on campus. (A GP encouraged me to continue with my studies for my own health.) My father has been in hospital again and on discharge when I phone him he is weepy and aggressive and says someone will have to help him. I phoned the doctor who said it is my responsibility and I should contact Social Care. I said that I have done (and was told by Social Care that afternoon to phone the GP as Social Care would not come out to my father that day.) I am distraught and am likely to have a breakdown myself since I have been trying for months for help to be put in place. Initially my father was resistant and Social Care said that without his full consent they could do nothing. I think the lawyer is arranging to be power of attorney as I cannot return to deal with the situation. I am waiting to undergo hospital tests myself and I am concerned about them. Please can someone give me advice? I am trying to maintain my own health and sanity.
