Help

Hello my  little boy has been diagnosed with ADHD and autism he is 8 years old

He's is really struggling with most things can't get him to eat or go out  etc

He seems to like school but when he does certain or new activitys he really doesn't like change, when I pick him up from school he is in some state ,bites all his nails and all the skin round his nails and can't sleep with worry about going back in to school

The school called me up and said he must take part in this activity he can't pick and choose what he wants

I was spoken to in a horrible manner and it was really unacceptable they have all my  boys diagnosis etc and letters from the paedtrition

  • Hi, sorry your son is having a rough time, and you also. The school will have a SENCO, and they are someone you need to sit down with and have a meeting. The school should also begin the process of requesting an EHCP assessment for your son, to identify his specific needs, interests and where support is required. A child cannot be made to participate in an activity, and children do have the rights of choice.  The school also must make reasonable adjustments to ensure inclusion of your son, making activities accessible to him. This can mean adapting the activity or parts of it that your son finds uncomfortable, so that he has the opportunity to participate.

    Hope I've helped.
