Following the huge success of filmnight 1 I'm finally able to do filmnight 2.
Same rules as before.
I use unpaid ZOOM, so you get it in 40 minute chunks with up to a five minute break in between "reels" whilst I wait for everyone to reappear who is going to.
Feel free to join, mute your video and microphone and never communicate if that's how you roll, it's just entertainment.
Anyone who wants to chat after, is welcome of course, chatting during the film is discouraged, of course.
I'm going for Sunday nights this time at 20:00, because it fits my routine better and therefore I'm more likely to keep it up.
This weeks presentation will be "lord of war" purported to be a semi-biopic of the Arms trafficker Viktor Bout who is the guy the Russians exchanged Britney Griner for recently.
It's a pretty horrible film in places, and explores human weaknesses and human evil, but it's a gripping watch it has to be said.
Next week though I'll be screening "Paul" which is a much more "cheerful" little film.
By way of being "democratic" I'll try and service requests at the rate of "one in four", until I run out of DVD's or other source materials.
The main reason I am doing this is to give those of us who might enjoy a night out at the cinema with friends (but who have no friends, do not like going out, or have no money, or may not actually like meeting other people, just like me in many of those areas!) to have the experience largely on their own terms.
There are also a couple of "side bets" for me:
1. I'd like to explore the possibly narcisssistic idea that I do actually have "taste" with a bunch of people who are most likely to "get it" or not.
2. It creates an opportunity for associations, even friendships to form, simply by cramming a few people together with a common purpose in the same "place", maybe for me, maybe for others, and gives me the opportunity to essentially have more useful function, which validates me, and also helps me to grow. I think I can deliver it a bot more reliably now I've overcome some technical and other problems that film night 1 raised for me. (Not least being unable to find the promised film on the day, and having to stream it off a website).
3. A bunch of people here have been really kind to me, or nice to me, or challenging, and in some cases have extended actual "agape", "filius" & "spiritus" types of love towards me (Not much "eros" TBF, but that keeps it simpler for me!) And I'd like to give something back.
We'll see how long I'm able to keep it up.
(A phrase that has an ominous meaning for most men when they hit a certain age.. -Jacob!! )

I boot up zoom five minutes before to let people get set. Please keep yer mike OFF unless you want us to hear you.
Every forty minutes I have to pause the drive and restart zoom, which I will do quickly then wait until all have rejoined (up to five minutes for those who made a coffee of took a comfort break, during which the garrulous may talk, but when the five minutes has elapsed or all (both of you, probably, TBF) have rejoined I just "roll VT"..
