Not working with ASC

Can being diagnosed with ASC be a reason for giving up work and looking after your family instead?  My husband suspects he has ASC and as we have some issues with childcare and transport. I don’t drive, my parents do the school run but they are getting older and not in great health. His parents live further away and are unreliable. If he gets diagnosed it may be a reason to become a carer for my son and myself who have diagnosed special needs.

  • Autism on its own is not a reason to give up work. Lots of autistic people have jobs.  There's no guarantee for any financial support, unless you can prove that you're unable to work because of it, which doesn't sound like the case.

If he chooses to give up work to become a home carer that's a separate thing and I don't know how that all works.
