Issues writing by hand

Am I the only one who finds it hard to write by hand with a pen or pencil? I first had this issue at school I couldn't hold the pencil steady and my writing looked horrific, teachers kept telling me off for it. It's no better now - probably a bit worse. I really struggle to keep hold of the pen now and the words sort of go all over the place. I tried writing Christmas cards when I woke up and omg they came out terribly. I remember now why I do all my writing on the laptop lol. My step sister is going to write the cards for me because her handwriting looks fancy and nice, but I am still disappointed I can't do this simple thing.

  • Yes, I'm the same. My handwriting is like a spider fell into an inkwell. But I also started holding a pen 'wrongly' when I first was learning in school to write (the pen rests on my fourth finger, with the other two closest to the thumb pressing it down at quite a shallow angle), and then never corrected it. It's probably made my movements less precise than those with the classic pincer grip. I also used to have a permanent callous on the first joint of my fourth finger for many years, that only eased as I started to use the pen less and the keyboard more. My writing leans dramatically backwards (forwards is, I believe, more common), which could partly be my unassertive nature coming through but is as likely to be just the way the pen-hold has influenced my slant.
