please help are these signs of autism

Leo's special list

BEFORE

  • got assessed and was at the development age of 10 months at 2 years

  • didn’t walk till he was 2

  • didn’t eat solids till he was 2 due to fear of swallowing

  • didn’t learn to use toilet and out of nappies till he was 4

  • was behind in all milestones

  • would only play alone

  • talking made no sense started about 4 and half

    NOW 7

    • whispers to himself

    • hums when he eats

    • not affectionate stopped giving cuddles and kisses for a long time still has a problem with it specially with anyone other than me his sister and foster sister

    • doesn't like strangers much

    • gets over excited for hours some times its hard to calm him down

    • takes everything you say to heart I.E if you say as a joke ow il have to get my manager to come and look at this work he will give u a job u will have to leave school at this rate. He will for the rest of the day get his room ready for the manager all he will talk about is the manager ask when s he coming over and over again. Get up before six to the change the room around for the manager

    • high energy

    • will go sleep late and wake up about 6 everyday

    • depends on sister ALOT

    • if sister stays out he can not deal with it is very difficult not naught just hard work and depressed

    • we recently split them up into separate rooms leo slept on the floor outside the door every night for a few weeks

    • hard to settle at night

    • has speech problems

    • wants to stay out at times but comes home 99% of the time. Told me he wants to just be at home with his family

    • addicted to counting

    • wanted to do school work everyday in holidays

    • needs consistency and routine.

    • Very sensitive, at the same time doesnt cry at the usual things but will cry at little things like a joke he will be smiling then burst into tears

    • wont stop if you tell him to

    • watches same dvd every night for weeks on end


    leo has not got a nasty bone in his body loves being helpful from when he could walk he helped people with buggies off the bus cross at a zebra crossing trying to tell driving off or thanking them

    he is smallest he is going into year4 and same size as year 1

  • he is behind in everything apart from maths he is ahead in maths and addicted to counting and adding wanting to do it constantly every second of the day

  • just thought i would let you know leo had another lady come over today to test him she said she come to save weeks of waiting as my appointment for next week with the pediatrician was result in leo getting reffered to her and doing a abc test and other thing so she thought if she did it before hand it would help.

    I avoided mentioning Autism as i wanted to see what she said she thought Leo had she did the ABC test on Leo and found he is now at the development age od top end of  years lower end of 5

    I then asked her what she thought and she said straight away that she thinks Autism with dyspraxia More on the Autistic side than Dyspraxia she spent a few hours with Leo so i think she would probably be a good judge i also showed her a recording of Leo earlier that day on his all fours like a god on the sofa zoned out whispering really quick to himself his ABCs this habbit seems to be getting worse im findin it harder and harder to go out with him (i feel bad for saying it) he has also started just saying things that are a bit shocking if that makes any sence i was in council and he was saying no thats not true and answering questions they were asking me made it sound like i was lying like saying i was single not with anyone he was saying yer you are what about dad so it looked like i was lying but they meant living with him which im not.

    he did this alot in his test also she noticed it to.

    Leos new thing is he will not eat brown food now he said he doesnt like brown food so has stopped eatin meat chocolate and his toast is more like stale bread.

    she said the reason these things are happening now is because Autism is more apparent from 7 (she said)

    I dont know why but i still feel like i am going to turn round on wednesday and they are going to say nothing is rong with him or its not either of these things i just dont believe myself really is that silly?

    the two proffesionals the health visitor and the school nurse have both mentioned autism and dyspraxia they are likey to know really aint they?

    sorry to blabber on i just have no one to talk to about it.

     

    how will the pediatrician test him? what do they do? what if leo is having a better day and doesnt do all the things he usually does i know it sounds silly me saying that im just worried.

    the lady has sent the list i posted one here and her findings to the doctor already so he will have it all at our appointment fingers crossed
