Leo's special list

BEFORE

  • got assessed and was at the development age of 10 months at 2 years

  • didn’t walk till he was 2

  • didn’t eat solids till he was 2 due to fear of swallowing

  • didn’t learn to use toilet and out of nappies till he was 4

  • was behind in all milestones

  • would only play alone

  • talking made no sense started about 4 and half

    NOW 7

    • whispers to himself

    • hums when he eats

    • not affectionate stopped giving cuddles and kisses for a long time still has a problem with it specially with anyone other than me his sister and foster sister

    • doesn't like strangers much

    • gets over excited for hours some times its hard to calm him down

    • takes everything you say to heart I.E if you say as a joke ow il have to get my manager to come and look at this work he will give u a job u will have to leave school at this rate. He will for the rest of the day get his room ready for the manager all he will talk about is the manager ask when s he coming over and over again. Get up before six to the change the room around for the manager

    • high energy

    • will go sleep late and wake up about 6 everyday

    • depends on sister ALOT

    • if sister stays out he can not deal with it is very difficult not naught just hard work and depressed

    • we recently split them up into separate rooms leo slept on the floor outside the door every night for a few weeks

    • hard to settle at night

    • has speech problems

    • wants to stay out at times but comes home 99% of the time. Told me he wants to just be at home with his family

    • addicted to counting

    • wanted to do school work everyday in holidays

    • needs consistency and routine.

    • Very sensitive, at the same time doesnt cry at the usual things but will cry at little things like a joke he will be smiling then burst into tears

    leo has not got a nasty bone in his body loves being helpful from when he could walk he helped people with buggies off the bus cross at a zebra crossing trying to tell driving off or thanking them

    he is smallest he is going into year4 and same size as year 1

  • he is behind in everything apart from maths he is ahead in maths and addicted to counting and adding wanting to do it constantly every second of the day

  • with the lying i found out he was telling the school everyday he had not had breakfast this resulted in him getting given secretly by the school for a whole month breakfast every morning on arrival until i got a call adventurely. then i had to go in and explain myself. ANOTHER concern for them was the fact leo does not wear socks another one of leos querks he will not wear sock refuses and takes them off if i do get them on his feet. i tried to explain that to them but with the NO breakfast thing they already had a false opinion. this is the meeting is when i also brought up getting leo reffered for his development n behaviour ect... this is when they said they would not support it although they did notice his running hadnt developed.

    I WAS TOLD WITH AUTISM ITS LESS NOTICEABLE AT SCHOOL AS ITS REUTINE IS THIS TRUE.

     

    Even though the school had apparently not noticed anything i was asked to stay for assembly as they were showing leos class the video of the play they just did i watched it and it made me so fustrated leo was the ONLY child without words as he still couldnt read and he was just rolling about on the floor whispering to himself. it was like everyone was ignoring the elephant in the room it made my heart sink and made me so angry how could they not notice that. i want this video to show the pediatrision but dont know how to ask the school for it as they said they would support e on this

    When i asked Leo when i got home " What do you think the school wanted me for " He said straight away "ow because they give me breakfast and i lied" (so he knew what he was doing)

    because of this i had to go through the humiliation of writting to the head every day for a month what leo had had for breakfast lunch and dinner what she thought he was doing at the weekend i dont know!
