Holiday time

I think it would be really useful and of great benefit to all concerned if families like ours could get together regularly, esoecially during the summer holidays. Like pairing up likeminded children and their needs as locally as possible. My son and I would certainly benefit from this

  • Is there a parents' group or a branch of NAS in your area? There are lists of these on the NAS web pages.

Parents groups can be a useful way of sharing experiences, but its a bit of a postcode lottery, some areas having well funded groups able to do lots of things, while others struggle even to have an office from which to run a help line.

The only drawback of parents groups is some are a bit like "autism by proxy" - you tend to see the parents most, and hear the parents' woes, rather than there being much presence of the children/teenagers.

But you may find there is some groups you can go to, even in a neighbouring area, where they hold events with speakers and you can have an opportunity to meet other parents and AS members of your family to meet others.
