Flight Trauma

Hi

We are going to France in 2 weeks, flying with Easyjet. We did this 2 years ago and the flight home was late at night so my son was tired and the noise of the plane engines really upset him. Previously we have been to Oz with him 3 planes each way and no problems whatsoever. He is adament he isnt going and gets upset when we talk about it. I've tried all sorts of reasoning with him, bribery, talking about how much fun we had there last time and nothing seems to be swaying him at all. I don't want to end up with a meltdown at the airport, leaving him at home with grandparents or wasting the £600 spent on flights to drive instead! We also have 2 younger children who are really excited about going. My son is 7 years old. Any ideas anyone??/

Thanks

  • Hi JumpyNewall,

I would suggest noise cancelling headphones.  My husband has a pair of Sony noise cancelling headphones and we have had Sennheiser ones for our  two sons.  They work by recording the background noise and playing it back out of phase which reduces the noise to a much lower level.  You can also plug in mp3 player, ipad, nintendo ds to mask the remaining sound.  They work on any mechanical background sound but still leave voice audible so good on trains, planes, cars etc. We have used them with both our sons (both have asd) and they loved them.

    Hope this helps.
