Autism Badge Do U have 1

My mum brought me an autism badge and wants me to wear it every where when I go out and I really want 2 but at school I know id get bullied and I'm not sure if people would treat me different in town as well. When I go out with mum I wear it but on my own I don't. Do u guys have 1? I like it and it describes what I'm like well but I'm bit anxious about wearing it.

  • In the end other people's reactions will be a mixed bag, some helpful, some hurtful.  You have to do what makes you comfortable and that might be different in different situations.

Personally, I worry about medical situations most, especially if it were an emergency, say I got knocked over by a bus.  To those ends I have a dog tag which reads:  "Dawn.  I am Autistic" on one side and "Medical Anxiety.  May shut/melt down" on the other, so at least ambulance people and A&E staff will know what's going on if I'm not coping and can't communicate.  I also have an "I am Autistic card" which does help when I have to say, go get a COVID jab.

Otherwise, I am loud and proud.  I do have a nice selection of Autism positive T-shirts which I wear regularly.  But then, my play ground bullies are all long ago and far away fading back into the 1970s.  School kids can be pretty horrible.  The good news is they grow up eventually.  I did get a Friends Re-united message from one of my old bullies in my late 30s apologising profusely for having been so horrible.  That was sweet of her.

  • Yeh same I worry about medical situation as well. Early this year had problem with my head and had to go in to hospital and it was disaster they didn't no bout the autism or how to talk to me and treat me. If I ever have to go in for help again I'm hoping the badge will help
