Prep for asking GP for a referral for an Autism diagnosis

Hi I know this is somewhere on the site, as I remember glancing at it as I was looking to sign up to the forum, but then forgot to go back to it, (typical) and now can't remember where it was.

I'm trying to get up the courage to go and speak to my GP, and ask for a referral. But i know I can't just go and ask and Pettit with out giving a reason. Is there a page on here showing how to prepare for that?

I've downloaded a copy of the DSM-V criteria and am going through each point and typing up how it applies to me through out my 45 years on this planet. But I'm getting like a page and half of A4 for each point. I've also downloaded my results of the AQ questionnaires as well as the EQ (empathy) and the SQ (Systemising)

Am I over preparing (though I could argue this is a symptom of my need for routine order as I've always needed to do this and prepare for anything I do probably going over the top sometimes, and maybe it could slightly, ever so slightly relate to specialised interests)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, wasnt 100% sure where to put it, and thought this would be the 'least wrong section'

I'm just reading back what I've wrote, and perhaps I should take this as part of my argument ha ha

best

Simon

  • I'm in a similar situation.  I'm actually online now looking for a form that I really should have bookmarked! I think it was some nhs trust site, but I'm struggling to find it.  It's like a referral form that asks for details of each of the key areas of struggle (looking for a better name!) but includes sections on childhood, career, friendships etc.  Any ideas ?
