« We don’t need a cure for autism, only for ignorance »

Hi, I just watched this amazing talk from an autistic person and I wanted to share it- my favourite quote is « We don’t need a cure for autism, only for ignorance »

Watching this has made me wonder whether I should start telling more people about being autistic for the sake of raising awareness about autism. I think so many difficulties could be avoided if there was a better understanding of and greater openness towards difference in society (and not just autism but differences of any kind), but sadly there seems to still be a lot of stigma.

  • I have watched this TED talk before, I love it! Elisabeth is so passionate and a great advocate for our autistic community.

Yes this is a great idea, but obviously you need to be confident in our own autistic identity and be prepared to hear some ignorant comments.

I have recently started disclosing my autistic identity and it feels great! Another way you could initiate discussion is by wearing some autistic pride t-shirts.

Be proud of your own autistic identity!
