I have a student who has ASD. Very bright, needs lots of extra time on assignments so we make all necessary accommodations to help. My inquiry is mostly based on expectation. We have found that an online environment has best suited the student so trying to come up with standards that are fair and successful for all involved. If we have set up a progress schedule, with accommodations of course, and expect sticking to the agreement, is it appropriate to do so? Parents and staff all initially agreed to this structured approach and it has worked for several weeks. Lately the parents want the student working more from the home and we notice a drop off regarding time on task. When the student attends, time on task is fine. Are these reasonable expectations? Parents are suggesting that we allow the student to figure it out on the student's own with no standard. Just trying to figure out the middle road here in the best interests of the student. Thanks for any suggestions!
