Penpals

Hello! I am new to the forum, having been diagnosed last year age 29, and feeling pretty lonely. I enjoyed having penpals as a child and would love to find one or two autistic penpals! I particularly enjoy sending and receiving actual paper letters, but email is fine too.

I am 30, female, and my interests include biology (I studied zoology and am particularly interested in animal intelligence), druidry, mythology, writing (poetry, novels, etc. - mostly fantasy), reading, music (both playing and listening), exploring new places, and spending time in wild places.

I'm open to any age or gender of penpal :)

  • I did a degree in zoology, many years ago. One of my lecturers was a friend of Niko Tinbergen, the bird behaviourist and Nobel Prize-winner. I went on to a career (as in hurtling downhill under no control!) in molecular biology/tropical disease. I took early retirement during the Covid lockdown. My interests are varied: history, various periods from Ancient Greece to the Napoleonic period, reading 'literature', historical fiction, sci-fi and fantasy. Incidentally, with your interests, have you read any of Alan Garner's books?

I am autistic, diagnosed last year, and, apart from my daughter, have yet to meet any other autistic person. I think that this is a problem for many of us, just not having other autistic people to communicate with. The only problem is I am not a very good or reliable letter-writer.
