What's your fashion?

Fashion is something I'm very interested in. I'm not so much into modern day fashion but love vintage and classic fashion, you know clothing, jewellery and accessories from the early 19th century. This is all I own and wear for the last few years. I have my clothes, gloves, hats, jewellery and makeup all of which is vintage and precious to me in so many ways.

Sadly I do get a lot of looks from people when I'm out but I don't mind. It makes me happy being like this Slight smile

I'm interested to know what your fashion is like as well. Do you think mine is ok?

  • Or maybe, a bit more this way inclined.....

  • I love to see people’s different personalities reflected in how they dress, I have always respected people who dress differently and it’s a brave statement. Yes I think it’s totally okay, it’s part of who you are.
I just turned 50 and have always loved and been interested in fashion, I have to be careful these days obviously because of my age. I have mainly shopped at Allsaints since they first opened their doors in 1994 and still do today. As others have mentioned I do buy multiples of items though and often get told I’m so predictable in what I choose to wear….. maybe I have found a way to be reasonably fashionable but with being reassuringly comfortable.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds patterns overwhelming. I'm not a fan of anything too tight, but I do like my jeggins, only they've gone baggy, either they've stretched or I've lost more weight.

I just wish I could get clothes in nicer colours, I'm fed up of grey, navy and black which dosen't really suit me, I'd like a nice plum colour, or teal, a green that isn't khaki or a brown that dosen't make me look like a giant skid mark!

  • You sound like a fashionable person Harp, and perhaps I should take a tip out of your book because I try to be reasonably fashionable so long as the clothing is something I like, which is increasingly rare these days. Maybe it is because it is difficult to get clothing made in natural fibres and I dislike synthetic fabrics next to my skin. Some natural fabrics feel excruciating, particularly boiled wool and felt. I rarely wear dresses and never skirts because I’m much more comfortable in trousers or jeans. I find it easiest to choose summer clothes because many are made from cotton and linen fabrics. I like to buy clothes that will last in order to reduce the need to shop, and help the planet.

  • Your fashion sounds fine to me. Don't worry about what others think, if they look at you weirdly, let them. Their the ones with the problem not you!

I guess my fashion is boring lol I don't keep up to date with what's in and what's hot. I did in my teens but I'm nearly 30 now and I'm happy with what I really like to wear, which is mostly jeans and jumpers. Sometimes I'll wear a dress in the summer or for special occasions.

Sometime I like to dress up as characters from my favourite series and films. I'm a big Doctor Who fan and have a 13th Doctor fancy dress costume that I wear sometimes.

  •  I look like a Lego character!

Here is what sprung to mind:

  • When I was a toddler, I lived in a city ground floor flat with access to a small garden.  The building was Victorian.  I was used to visiting Grandparents at their homes (keen gardeners).  In our little patch at home I would copy them working the soil.  Twice, I unearthed not vegetables, but a piece of Victorian / Edwardian costume jewellery.  At the time I thought it was long lost treasure.

One find was an ornate, stiff, metal hinged  bangle / bracelet, of tiny fused balls, with a strong spring-loaded clasp

Another item was a white-metal brooch with a stylised plant border around a faceted green glass "stone".  It had a stout, hinged, horizontal bar / pin which you clipped securely into a "c" shaped hook.

I thought they were great finds.  Once the mud was brushed / washed off they were serviceable items to accompany a good outfit when visiting relatives or attending a little friend's birthday.

    I still have both items.

These days, I wonder if the two very elderly ladies who lived in the upper floors of our building had spotted my "gardening" efforts and arranged my "treasure".  (Particularly, as both items were of an era and stout enough for a toddler to operate!).  Those ladies were often knowledgeable about my playtime antics and didn't seem to have young relatives of their own Family.

I would say unique fashion caught my imagination, courtesy of my toddler-ish "gardening" endeavour.

If you have found your own style, which makes you happy, I would embrace it and celebrate it (whenever you are comfortable doing so).

In your tribute, I shall wear my green glass "treasure brooch" when I go shopping this week.

  • My daughters girlfriend keeps calling me a hipster, and my children think I dress fashionably and edgy. I don’t follow trends, I just know what suits me, and I have to be comfortable. I have a huge selection of good jeans that I dress up or dress down with key pieces and well made footwear. The older I get, the more I am confident in my choices.

  • If it makes you happy then why not? It doesn't matter if others look and what they think. All that matters is that you are comfortable and are happy.

I dress in mostly boring things to be honest. Usually I wear t shirt and jeans, sometimes dresses or skirts but not often. I usually have a t shirt on with something cute printed on it.

  • Hi, I normally wear blue clothes, normally similar blue T-shirts and blue jeans. I have a dark blue suit that has a blue shirt to go with it and a dark blue coat. Easy life, no designer labels most of my clothes are normally Primani, didn’t notice that I only wear blue until someone else pointed it out. I do wear only black cotton socks, nylon makes my skin crawl.

  • Unless there is some compelling reason not to (very rare), I wear the same things every day.  I have circa 20 of identical t-shirts and 10 pairs of near identical trousers.  I only wear one make of socks.  I only wear one make of foot wear.  I look like a Lego character!

  • So long as you're comfortable in what you wear, that is all that matters. Unfortunately I don't have much of a fashion taste. My old school would occasionally have days where we could come in without uniform. I would reliably turn up in one of two ways:

1.) Still in school uniform because I didn't care

2.) In walking trousers and a Nike t-shirt, as that was the only other thing I would wear.

Things haven't changed much since I've been at sixth form, with solely the discovery of jeans Joy

  • Trust me, if you like something and it makes you happy then it is ok. It doesnt matter what anyone else thinks as long as you like it.
For the record I think wearing 19th century stuff is awesome! So much more interesting than boring modern fashions.

I like clothes from the 1970s, I love the huge collars people used to wear then that went almost out to their shoulders. I love the colours and feel of the clothes too. I got myself a 1970s football tracksuit jacket that I really like
